Ethics and Law in Health Care Learning Objectives
Goals:
My learning goals for this course are to improve my knowledge and awareness of the different ethical and legal dilemmas I may cross as a psychiatric nurse and student. I also want to have a better understanding of the Mental Health Act and how it applies to me as a nurse as I already must know it for work but in a different sense. Last I want to increase my critical thinking skills and own ethics to help me with different situations that may arise during practicum.
How they were met:
I believe my learning goals were reached this semester through utilizing the textbook and posted resources, learning the CRNBC Code of ethics and how it applies to psychiatric nursing practice, participating in online postings and discussions and reviewing ethical dilemmas, what they are, and why they are important in health care especially mental health treatments. My essay was written on the use of restraints which helped further my knowledge of ethical dilemmas and helped me to recognize any that came up during my clinical rotation. Journaling about different ethical dilemmas I came across and working through them with my preceptor helped me to grasp a firm understanding of the importance of personal and professional ethics, values, morals and policies.
