Introduction to Women Studies Learning Objectives
Goals:
My learning goals for this course are to increase my knowledge and develop a greater understanding of the feminist movements that contribute to how women are viewed in society today. I also want to learn about the past present and future of the movements and definitions of feminism and how it all relates to psychiatric nursing. I want to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of empowerment and women’s rights while applying it to my practice as a psychiatric nurse and student.
How they were met:
I believe my learning goals were reached this semester through utilizing the textbook, participating in online postings and discussions regarding feminist concepts, issues and self-direction. This course made me take responsibility for my course work and productivity while teaching me the power of assertiveness, leadership, self-reflection and self-empowerment. Making a grade contract at the beginning made me accountable for my work ethic and how much I needed to put into this course to get out of it what I was expecting. This course also gave me a greater understanding of the main concepts of feminist pedagogy such as personal power, meaning, awareness, gender, praxis, empowerment, hegemony, authority, community building, coming to voice and the relationship between student and professor.
